LG is one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of products for home owners in the world. From home appliances, such as fridges & dish washers, to TVs to ductless mini split heat pumps and air conditioners. They are a brand leader across several consumer product categories.
In this post I want to outline for you a bit about why we at Sunshine Renewable Energy love the LG ductless heat pumps so much. We’re going to look at:
- The different LG Heat Pumps available
- The benefits of LG Mini Split Heat Pumps
- LG Heat Pump Prices guidelines
- The LG Heat pump Warranty
After reading this I believe you’ll understand why we feel LG units are often our first recommended unit for home owners looking for ductless units.
Types of LG Ductless Heat Pumps
There are quote a few different LG models that we sell and install each week. All units are ductless (LG does not sell a central ducted heat pump system).
The most popular units are:
- LG Prestige 12,000 BTU model
- LG Regular 12,000 & 18,000 BTU models
- LG Dual & Tri zone systems which are 18,00 BTY, 24,000 BTU and 33,000 BTU respectively
Besides those sizes and models of heat pumps, LG also has a couple of unique looking interior designs we’ve installed for some home owners.
Check out the image to the right of the LG Art Cool heat pump head. We installed this unit in a home owners master bedroom. The art work is changeable to anything you want. This unit offers a unique alternative to the standard heat pump head for smaller rooms and/or areas where a standard heat pump head just won’t look right.
The LG Prestige Benefits
This prestige LG mini split heat pump is one of, if not, the best 12,000 BTU heat pump on the market right now. It’s efficiency ratings are through the roof including a 27.5 SEER and 11.8 HSPF and an operating temperature down as low as -25 Celsius.
HSPF – Heating Seasonal Performance Factor
One of the acronyms we mentioned above was HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). This is similar to SEER, but it’s a measurement unique to air source heat pumps, like the LG units we’re discussing. The HSPF is a ratio of how many BTU’s of heat a unit puts out over a given heating season divided by the number of watt-hours used to create that heat.
The higher the number the better because this means you’re creating more heat for less electricity. This in turn means less money for you.
LG BENEFIT #1 – Higher HSPF rating (11.8) means you’re creating the heat you need during the cool seasons (quantity of BTU’s) for less money = Low Cost of Operation.
Quiet Unit that Move Lots of Air
Efficiency and cost of operation are very important, but so is the noise of the unit as well as how much air the unit moves. This particular LG Heat pump can operate quieter than a library at 17dB.
LG BENEFIT #3 – Quiet operation means no disruption to your living area. You hardly know it’s on unless you’re near by and feel the heat moving through out the room.
Even though the unit is quiet it still manages to move as much as 547 cubic feet of air per minute. This means heat moves more quickly, as does cooling and it can also cover a slightly larger area then similar sized heat pumps on the market, up to 1000 sq.ft to be exact.
LG BENEFIT #4 – Higher air circulation rating means both heating and cooling spreads more quickly and the LG Prestige can cover a slightly larger room size then other similar sized units.
Low Operating Temperature Perfect for our East Coast Canadian Winters!
The LG Prestige operates down to a maximum low temperature of -25 degrees Celsius and the LG regular ductless and multi-zone units work down to -20. These are some of the lowest operating temperatures out there.
Does this mean that you LG heat pump will shut off at -25 or -20? No, not shut off, but they become inefficient. So much so that turning on your back-up source for heating in that area of your home would probably make more sense.
The good news is that those temperatures of -25 and -20 are ambient, not windchill. For reference the coldest day Halifax had in 2013 was -22 on February 8th and the coldest month of 2013 was January with an average temperature of -11.
Check this page out for temperature references.
LG Benefit #5 – Low operating temperatures mean your LG ductless unit will keep working as low as -20 to -25 (depending on the model) so you won’t need to worry about your backup heating source kicking in.
What do LG Heat Pumps Cost?
The cost of an LG Ductless heat pump varies based on:
- Model (prestige, regular, art-cool etc.)
- Size (12,000 BTU, 18,000 BTU, 24,000 BTU etc.)
- Number of zones (single, dual, tri etc.)
- Complexity of installation
It’s because of all these variables that it’s so important for one of our Home Energy Specialists to visit your home and complete an on-site assessment of your homes square footage, layout, current electrical service & heating system to ensure we’re recommending the right equipment that will save you money.
Here are some rough guidelines for LG Heat pump pricing:
Single Zone 12,000 BTU: $3,300 – $3,700.
This would be taking into consideration the cost of an LG regular ductless heat pump right up to the ultra efficient Prestige model.
Dual Zone 18,000 BTU: $5,900 – $6,600.
This pricing varies based on the different sized heads you looking for in your home and the distance of those heads from the location of the outdoor compressor unit.

LG Heat Pump Warranty
The warranty might be the last item we’re talking about in this post today, but it’s by far the least important aspect of a heat pump purchase.
The warranty on all LG ductless heat pumps that we sell and install at Sunshine Renewable Energy is:
- 5 Year Parts (Indoor head unit)
- 7 Year Compressor (Outdoor unit)
- We also guarantee all of our workmanship for a full year which includes all of the lines and items run and installed by our technicians
There is also an option to extend that warranty to 10 years parts and labour direct from LG. Ask your Home Energy Specialist about this during your in-home assessment.
I hope this post answers all your potential questions about LG ductless mini split heat pumps. We are a big fan of their products as are hundreds of our customers who have these heat pumps installed in their homes.
If you have other questions you’d like to have answered why not schedule an in-home assessment with one of our home energy specialists. Simply call 902-701-9678 to book your appointment today or submit the form to the right of this page and one of our representatives will call you back ASAP!
